The Fire Service says it dealt with about 60 Guy Fawkes-related fires, mostly caused by scrub, rubbish bins and bonfires.
Heavy rain scuppered Guy Fawkes celebrations in Auckland on Tuesday night.
Christchurch police said they received dozens of calls, with some people complaining fireworks were being aimed at their cars or at buildings.
Acting inspector at the Christchurch police communications centre, John Robinson, said there were complaints about noise and many said the fireworks seemed louder than usual.
Mr Robinson said no fireworks-related arrests were made.
