Spending on tourism and exports in Budget

12:47 pm on 16 April 2013

Prime Minister John Key has announced the Government will spend an extra $158 million on tourism during the next four years.

In a pre-Budget speech in Wellington, Mr Key identified encouraging more growth in exports, and the tourism sector, as two areas where there will be significant investment.

More details about the extra spending on tourism will be issued later this week.

But Mr Key said it will accelerate work already being done in attracting high-end tourists.

It will also be spent on bringing international events to New Zealand, simplifying visa processes, and boosting marketing overseas.
