05:03 am on 18 September 2019

In Fiji, a 62-year-old man with New Zealand residency has appeared in the Nadi Magistrates Court facing five murder charges.

This relates to the deaths of Nirmal Kumar, his wife Usha Devi, their daughter Nileshni Kajal and her two daughters Sanah Singh and Samarah Singh whose bodies were found in the Nausori Highlands three weeks ago.

The suspect also faces an attempted murder charge relating to the one-year-old baby found near the bodies in a distressed state.

The baby's mother is Sangeeta Devi who normally lives in Australia. She rushed to Fiji on hearing of the tragedy.

She spoke to Jenny Meyer who asked her how she felt about the man charged with killing three generations of her family now being behind bars, with bail denied and a deferral to the High Court.
