A homicide investigation has been launched following the death of a man who was critically injured in an assault on Christmas Eve in the Eastern Bay of Plenty.
Emergency services were called to a property in Nukuhou, southeast of Whakatāne, about 5pm after a disorder incident.
Three men were hospitalised, two with serious injuries and one with critical injuries who later died on Boxing Day.
A 35-year-old man has been charged with wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.
He has been remanded in custody and is due to appear in the Whakatāne District Court on 20 January.
Police said inquiries were ongoing and they would like to hear from anyone who had not yet spoken to them and or had information useful to their investigation.
