Killings in Suva being tied to Beijing crime lords

10:13 am on 8 September 2003

Fiji police have linked four execution style murders near Suva to Beijing crime lords and are seeking help from interpol and the Chinese authorities.

They have also extended their inquiries to Hong Kong, Taiwan, Australia and New Zealand.

The director of the Criminal Investigation Department, Emosi Vunisa, says officers are investigating the possibility that the killings could have been carried out by a foreign assassin paid to do the job.

They have questioned and released several Chinese and Taiwanese nationals but have not made any arrests or laid any charges.

The victims were three Chinese nationals and a Fijian security guard who were found with gunshot wounds to the head.
