$70,000 pay rise for head of EQC

13:45 pm on 22 November 2012

Earthquake Commission chief executive Ian Simpson received a pay increase of $70,000 for the past year, raising his salary to about $400,000.

In the year to June 2012, 26 EQC employees had salaries of over $100,000 - twice as many as the previous year.

The comission says this is a reflection of personnel numbers increasing from 22 before the earthquake to well over 1000 now.

A community group in Christchurch says a $70,000 pay rise is ludicrous. The Wider Earthquake Communities Action Network said the commission is not meeting its customer satisfaction targets.
