14:52 pm on 9 March 2012

The Australian cricketers have won the tri-series one day competition after beating Sri Lanka by 16 runs in the third final in Adelaide.

Chasing 232 for victory, Sri Lanka were bowled out for 215 with six balls remaining.

Pace bowler Clint McKay took five wickets for 28 runs.

Australia will now retain the number one ranking in the one-day international championship for a third successive year unless they lose all five matches on their upcoming tour of West Indies.
