Heavy rain is expected to lash parts of the country today with flooding and slips possible.
A severe weather warning is in place in Westland and Tasman - with up to 130mm of rain possible in some areas.
Westland between Otira and Bruce Bay, until 8pm Friday, can expect 90 to 130mm of rain about the ranges, with 50 to 90mm possible nearer the coast.
Tasman northwest of Motueka can expect 80 to 120mm of rain from 8am Friday to 3am Saturday.
In the North Island, another heavy rain warning is in place for Mount Taranaki from 5pm Friday to 10am Saturday, with flooding and slips possible.
The greater Wellington region is under a rain watch from 6pm Friday, with MetService warning even if warning criteria is not reached there is still a risk of flooding, slips and rising rivers after Thursday's rain.
