Public health officials in Auckland are urging people to be careful after three Auckland University of Technology students were diagnosed with the mumps.
The university has spoken to the students and anyone they've come in contact with.
More than 50 people have been diagnosed with mumps since the start of the year in the Auckland region alone.
The disease is spread through saliva and mucus. Symptoms include fever, headache, muscle aches, tiredness and painful facial swelling.
