Former National Party leader and transport minister Simon Bridges has been named as the new chairperson of Waka Kotahi, the New Zealand Transport Agency.
Bridges, who is also chief executive of the Auckland Business Chamber, has been appointed for a three year term.
Transport Minister Simeon Brown made the appointment, saying Bridges would bring extensive experience and knowledge of transport.
"He will have a strong focus on delivery and outcomes and ensure that NZTA is working to implement the Government Policy Statement on land transport, which will provide the infrastructure New Zealanders need."
Brown thanked Cassandra Crowley for her three-month stint as acting chairperson, saying her "strong leadership, advice, and support have been invaluable".
