Strong winds cause flight cancellations, delays and diversions at Queenstown Airport

Strong winds have affected a number of flights in and out of Queenstown this afternoon.

Queenstown Airport's Sara Irvine said a number of flights wer delayed, diverted or cancelled due to weather.

Fifteen flights have been cancelled today, including two international flights from Sydney that were due to land early afternoon.

Metservice has an orange strong wind warning in place for Queenstown and the Southern Lakes, with severe gale northwesterlies in exposed places and gusts of up to 130 kilometres per hour.

The warning is in place until 8pm tonight.
