A dozen businesses have registered so far to get free courses for their staff, as part of a bid to upskill Auckland's Pasifika workforce.
The region's economic and cultural agency, Auckland Unlimited, has been allocated $8 million by the government to provide training for 3500 Pacific people over four years.
Registrations opened this month to small and medium-sized businesses that have a large proportion of Pasifika workers.
Once in the programme, employers can be matched with an education provider offering courses in financial literacy and digital skills, or alternatively, a course tailored to their sector.
More than half of Pacific people work in lower-skilled jobs, getting lower incomes than the general population, and the programme aims to address that.
