Vanuatu's Prime Minister says he can't see dialogue between Fiji's interim regime and the Pacific Islands Forum unless it is willing to change its position on elections.

The interim Prime Minister, Commodore Frank Bainimarama told FijiLive he is keen to engage with the international community including Australia and New Zealand but on his own terms.

Edward Natapei says the Forum's position offers an opportunity for dialogue with Fiji, but not without some concessions from the interim regime.

"His terms are, let elections take place in 2014, and I don't think the Commonwealth will accept that, so if he is expecting the Commonwealth to accept that elections take place in 2014 and those are his terms, then I don't see anything happening"

Edward Natapei says Vanuatu is willing to facilitate dialogue between Fiji's regime, and civil society, chiefs and churches.
