The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees has accused the Australian government of reneging on a commitment to re-unite offshore detainees with close family members living in Australia.
The commissioner Filippo Grande says he supported Australia's deal with the US to settle some of the refugees detained on Nauru and Papua New Guinea's Manus Island on the "clear understanding" that those with family in Australia would ultimately be allowed to join them.
