The tasering and pepper spraying of a woman by an Auckland police officer has been found to be unjustified.

The Independent Police Conduct Authority says the officer's actions were inappropriate and oppressive.

In September 2017, a car chase ended in the SkyCity carpark with the male driver fled from the vehicle.

The female passenger remained in the car and one officer aimed their taser at the woman and used pepper spray as she was being apprehended.

Another officer dragged her across the carpark by her leg where she was restrained by two other officers.

The first officer used his taser again, holding it near her head to intimidate her into telling the police the identity of the driver.

He then tasered her while she was handcuffed in the back of a police patrol car.

Police agree with the findings.
