Openings in Team UK's mainsail skin, that was not covered or closed whilst racing, was spied by challenger of record, Luna Rossa, who lodged a complaint to the Rules Committee on Friday night.

The British team has been fined $7,010, to be paid to the Sir Peter Blake Trust, to cover this penalty.

The international jury released a decision on Saturday that stated: " Following consultation with the Regatta Director, the Measurement Committee has determined that this non-compliance with the AC75 Class Rule has not (or could not reasonably be expected to have) improved the performance of the yacht or has not (or could not reasonably be expected to have) had a significant effect on the outcome of a race."

The penalty dished out was based on it being Team UK's first AC75 Class Rule offence during the series.

Team UK will be in action in the second race on Saturday against American Magic.
