The name of the victim of a suspected homicide in Ōpōtiki on Friday night has been released, as Bay of Plenty police continue their investigation.
Steven Rota Taiatini, 45, of Ōpōtiki was found with serious injuries at around 11.05pm on Friday when police were called to a "disorder related incident" on Saint John Street.
While CPR was attempted, he died due to the severity of his injuries, police said.
Police expected to complete the scene examination today and said they would like to hear from anyone who was in the areas of Saint John, Albert or Richard streets, between 9.30pm on 9 June and 12.30am on 10 June.
"We urge anyone with information, no matter how small, to come forward and speak with us," Detective Inspector Lew Warner said in a statement.
"Police will maintain a visible and increased presence in the Ōpōtiki area over the coming days."
