A senior police officer in Papua New Guinea has been dismissed after being found guilty of 13 disciplinary charges.

Senior Inspector Tom Mou was removed from the force after an internal investigation found him guilty of five counts of prejudicial conduct, five counts of conduct which discredit the Constabulary and three counts of criminal conduct.

A police spokesman Dominic Kakas says the disciplinary charges were laid against the senior officer after two separate incidents which occured in the National Capital District in 2007 and 2008.

He says Senior Inspector Mou was suspended during the investigation but says he has only been dismissed now, as officials have been careful in their decision to ensure all matters were taken into account.
