Alker was tied for the lead, at six-under par, after round one of the season-ending Charles Schwab Cup Championship in Arizona on Friday (NZ time).

The 51-year-old came into the event leading the Charles Schwab Cup standings and could only be beaten for the title by Irish star Padraig Harrington, who was one shot off the lead at five-under.

Alker's consistency was on full display on the opening day and if there was any pressure in being the frontrunner, it didn't appear he was feeling it yet.

"I've been hunted since May, so it's no - there's no problem," he said.

"It felt fine. It was like, you know, just another week. Yeah, I've got a bullseye there, but to be honest, no."

Alker shared the lead with American John Huston and Canada's Stephen Ames.

Harrington was joined by multiple-time Charles Schwab Cup winner, Germany's Bernhard Langer, at five-under par.

The rest of the top ten was represented by five players in a tie for sixth at four-under - Brian Gay, Lee Janzen, Gene Sauers, Spain's Miguel Angel Jimenez and Thailand's Thongchai Jaidee.
