As it happened: Covid-19 updates from NZ and around the world

18:35 pm on 15 April 2020

More people have recovered from Covid-19 than currently have the coronavirus, but NZ is not out of the woods yet, says Dr Ashley Bloomfield.

As Covid-19 spreads around the world, it can be daunting keeping up with the information. For RNZ, our responsibility is to give you verified, up to the minute, trustworthy information to help you make decisions about your lives and your health. We'll also be asking questions of officials and decision makers about how they're responding to the virus. Our aim is to keep you informed.

In his latest update this afternoon, the Director-General of Health revealed there were currently 649 active cases of Covid-19 in New Zealand, with 728 people now recovered.

Dr Bloomfield said the fact there were now much more recovered cases than current cases reflected that the bulk of cases were in the February-March period.

But he said it did not mean any Health Ministry efforts against the virus would be downgraded.

"We are still not out of the woods."

Nine people have died from Covid-19, with the country recording 1386 cases so far.
