Arrest in Napier after alleged firearms incident

A man was arrested yesterday after what is believed to be a firearms incident at Napier.

Hawke's Bay Area Commander Lincoln Sycamore said a 26-year-old man was arrested about 4am yesterday following the incident in Te Awa.

There were no reports of injuries, according to police.

Police said they searched a residential property in the area and found items of interest.

The arrested man is due to appear in the Hastings District Court today, charged with unlawful possession of ammunition, discharging a firearm, unlawful possession of a firearm, and failing to comply with conditions of a Protection Order.

Further charges are being considered, police said.
