Futuna gets mobile phone service

15:02 pm on 24 November 2015

Mobile telephone services are being rolled out on the French Pacific island of Futuna, and they are being hooked up with the network set up on neighbouring Wallis.

The territory's broadcaster says technicians arrived two weeks ago and first calls between the two islands could be made successfully.

It says some of Futuna won't get coverage until early next year because transmitters still need to be added to some pylons.
