School and children buried by landslide

05:55 am on 5 October 2012

At least five children are dead after a landslide buried a school building in south-west China.

Rescue teams searching for survivors from the class recovered the bodies from the collapsed building.

Eighteen children and an adult were buried when the landslide hit the school and two other houses in Yunnan province at 8am on Thursday.

The BBC reports search teams are still looking for survivors.

A series of earthquakes, including one of 5.8 magnitude, hit the province on 8 September, killing dozens of people.

The China News Service reports the students were at school on a national holiday to make up for classes suspended after the September earthquake.

Xinhua said one family of three managed to flee before the landslide.
