Police used tear gas during a 13-hour stand-off at an Auckland house, Radio New Zealand reports.
Officers had been negotiating since yesterday afternoon with a man they said had a double-barrelled shotgun, at a property on The Esplanade in the southeastern suburb of Eastern Beach.
Police said they used tear gas and no shots had been fired.
Earlier they said they did not believe the man was a threat to the public.
