Pilot killed in Canterbury light plane crash named

The pilot who died in a light plane crash at Lake Ellesmere in Canterbury earlier this week has been named.

He was 23-year-old Ramprakash Srikumar of Christchurch.

Mr Srikumar was the only person on board the Cessna 172 plane from the Canterbury Aero Club when it went down on Thursday night.

He was doing night flying exercises at the time.

The death will be referred to the coroner and the Civil Aviation Authority will investigate.
