American Samoa juvenile guard on drugs charges

17:23 pm on 8 April 2017

It's been revealed that at least one of the four guards from the American Samoa Juvenile Detention Centre arrested last week is facing drugs charges.

The first of the defendants, Alofagia Letuli, had his initial court hearing this week.

He was charged with possession of methamphetamine and is still in custody ahead of a trial in the High Court.

The remaining three are yet to be arraigned.

The charges came after a police detective started investigating allegations of drug use among detainees at the facility.
