UCI likely to appeal Contador decision

Cycling's world governing body is likely to appeal the decision of the Spanish Cycling Federation to overturn Alberto Contador's one-year ban relating to a failed drugs test on his way to victory in last year's Tour de France.

The Spanish Federation accepted Contador's claim that he'd inadvertently ingested a minute quantity of a banned substance through contaminated meat he had eaten during last year's tour.

But the UCI is likely to take the case to the Court of Arbitration for Sport, paving the way for a long, drawn-out process which may, ultimately, see Contador serve a ban.

The World Anti Doping Agency also has the right to challenge the Spanish Federation's decision.
