A trust has taken ownership of a beachfront property at Awaroa that was the focus of a crowd-funding campaign.
The government gave $350,000 to top up pledges of just over $2 million towards the purchase of the land in the Abel Tasman National Park.
One of the men behind the campaign, Duane Major, travelled to Auckland today for the transaction giving ownership of the beach to the Awaroa Beach Property Trust.
He said it was a significant milestone and satisfying to get the land off the property market.
Mr Major said the land will be cared for by the trust in the interim, until it is gifted to the Crown to become a national park.
He said this could take several months.
