The man found critically injured last week after an assault in Whangamarino and later died has been named as 43-year-old Darshak Narran.

The South Auckland man was found critically injured on the side of Hampton Downs Road in Whangamarino early on the morning of 14 October.

He later died after being transported to Auckland Hospital in a critical condition.

Two men have been charged with Darshak's murder.

A 42-year-old man was arrested in Auckland on Friday and appeared in Manukau District Court charged with murder on Saturday, police said.

Earlier, a 32-year-old man was also charged with murder.

Both will appear next on 5 November in the High Court at Hamilton.

Police urged anyone who was travelling on Hampton Downs Road between 10pm on 13 October and 1am 14 October to come forward, especially if they have dashcam footage.
