New representation for Auckland lawyer

15:19 pm on 8 October 2012

An Auckland lawyer and former Maori Party candidate defending charges in relation to helping a convicted killer has had to quickly find a new lawyer.

Davina Murray has appeared in the North Shore District Court on Monday on charges of providing Liam Reid with an iPhone, a packet of cigarettes and a lighter.

She also faces a charge of communicating with Reid in a way that could prejudice the safety of another prisoner.

Reid is serving a 23-year-sentence for killing Christchurch deaf woman Emma Agnew in November 2007.

Her previous lawyer, Barry Hart, was struck off in September this year after being found guilty of three misconduct charges by the Lawyers' and Conveyancers Disciplinary Tribunal.

Ms Murray's new lawyer, Charl Hirshfeld, told the court he only came on board on Sunday.

The case has been adjourned until next year.
