Can NZ do without animal testing?

While cosmetic animal testing is banned in New Zealand, and has been for the past 3 years, cosmetic products tested on animals elsewhere can still be bought here, and at the last count animal testing in our agricultural industry actually went up from the previous year.

So what are the alternatives to animal testing?
