Bombs at New Year festival

Three bombs have exploded at a festival in Yangon, the former capital of Mynanmar, otherwise known as Burma, killing at least eight people and wounding 75.

The BBC reports the blasts occurred at about 1500 local time (0830 GMT)

on Thursday in a park by Kandawgyi Lake as residents marked the New Year water festival.

There have been no immediate claims of responsibility.

A hospital official said the death toll was expected to rise.
