The Dunedin City Council has announced plans to build a new bridge for pedestrians and cyclists to link the harbour basin and the central city.
The council has proposed that up to $3.5 million be set aside in the 2016-17 budget as well as the 2017-18 budget for the project.
Dunedin Mayor Dave Cull says the footbridge proposal replaces one for a more expensive walkway option, recently abandoned by the council.
Dave Cull says the proposed area is popular with tourists and the public will be able to make submissions.
