About a dozen Porirua residents have received letters from New Zealand Post, saying their letterboxes are a hazard to posties.
A Plimmerton resident, Hannah Henderson, says the letter she received stated that the spring-loaded flap on her letterbox was dangerous, and the springs would have to be cut for the postie to use it safely.
She found a dozen others in the Porirua region have received the same letter but she does not think her letterbox is a genuine safety hazard.
Mrs Henderson says she watched a postie deliver her mail on Friday and he seemed to have no problems.
She says she has yet to make the requested adjustment to her letterbox.
