10:31 am on 21 April 2005

French Polynesia President Oscar Temaru has called for a healthy economic development involving ambitious projects with an obvious collective usefulness.

Speaking at the opening of a seminar on development of Papeete's waterfront, Mr Temaru said his government's attitude toward economic development would involve a general economic policy, with a particular emphasis on big projects.

The president also used occasion to explain his government's intention of realigning French Polynesia's economic development.

Mr Temaru said he was ready to give the government's support to businesses "to stimulate employment and to make it possible for each one to participate in the growth for the benefit of children and families".
