AUS troops head to Honiara as political violence escalates

The Prime Minister's residence has been attacked and buildings have been torched by rioters in major political unrest in the Solomon Islands.

Australia has sent in police and Defence Force personnel to the capital Honiara - as protesters defy lockdown orders - and call on the Prime Minister to resign.

There's been two days of violence which local police have struggled to contain.

RNZ Pacific correspondent Elizabeth Osiefelo is in Honiara. She talks to Lisa Owen.
