Three enormous wickets from Nathan Lyon have left Australia four wickets away from winning the Ashes after day four of the third test at the Adelaide Oval.

Lyon clean-bowled Harry Brook and Ben Stokes, and had topscorer Zak Crawley brilliantly stumped to all but end England's slim hopes of pulling off a miracle run chase of 435 to keep the series alive.

England will head into the last day of the match on 207/6, in pursuit of what would be the highest successful run chase in test cricket history.

Assuming Australia can take the four wickets necessary to win the test for less than 227 runs on day five, it would mean the hosts have retained the Ashes inside 11 days.

No team have won the urn faster, since Australia needed just eight days of cricket to beat England in 1921.
