Whanganui District Council says all roads in the urban area are open, but it estimates it will take a year to fix them, following the recent flooding.

And while the council says there has been tremendous progress on opening rural roads, it could take up to three years to repair them.
Sections of the Matahiwi Track and Ahu Ahu Valley Road and the No 3 Line from the urban boundary to Kaimatira Road all remain closed.
Four wheel drive access is required for thse roads - Junction, Kauarapaoa, Creek. Kaukatea Valley and Bruce, as well as the Matahiwi Track.
Meanwhile, the Ruapehu District Council advises that the Raetihi-Pipiriki Road still has significant flood damage and the route from Pipiriki south on the Whanganui River Road remains closed.
