Fiji's Tourism Minister Faiyaz Koya claims nearly $US20,000 has been injected into the local economy by the first yacht received under the government's 'Blue Lane' initiative.
The move opens the way for yachts and pleasure craft to be accepted into Port Denarau in Nadi, once they meet criteria including a 14-day quarantine at sea.
The first foreign vessel to be allowed in the country after four months, arrived two weeks ago.
Koya said the yacht from New Zealand spent close to $20,000 in just over two days.
He said 26 yachts have been approved to enter Fiji with hundreds of thousands of US dollars likely to be injected into the country.
