Mass resignation from economic advisory board

16:59 pm on 11 June 2009

A group of senior business people has resigned en masse from a body set up by Rotorua District Council to promote economic growth.

In a joint letter to Mayor Kevin Winters, seven Bright Economy Advisory Board members speak of their frustration at the lack of action on their ideas.

The outgoing board also blames council inactivity for the loss of two former members and more recently its chairman.

The letter says business leaders must help to shape Rotorua's economic plans, but they cannot operate under a district council umbrella or become caught up in internal politics.

Those resigning also suggest that the mayor and chief executive should consider a stronger partnership with Rotorua's Chamber of Commerce.
