State Highway 27 near Tirau in south Waikato is expected to be closed for some time after a fatal crash between a diesel tanker and car.
The accident on SH27 between MacMillan Road and Langlands Road was reported to police at 11.10am.
Police said the driver of the car died at the scene of the crash.
A power pole came down in the collision, bringing lines down across the road.
