The world number three Andy Murray made another of his trademark escapes as the third-seeded Scot overcame Frenchman Adrian Mannarino after losing the first two sets to reach the third round of the US Tennis Open in New York.
Murray, who looked bewildered early on, recovered to beat the left-hander 5-7 4-6 6-1 6-3 6-1 as he came back from two sets down to register victory for the eighth time in his career.
The crafty Mannarino, ranked 35th despite having no ATP Tour titles to his credit, seemed to put Murray in a daze with a shifting variety of groundstrokes, drop shots and volleys at the net in the three and a quarter hour battle.
Two-time major winner Stan Wawrinka outslugged promising South Korean teenager Chung Hyeon to reach the third round.
The French Open champion belted 26 aces and hammered 62 winners but the 19-year-old Chung held his own against the Swiss fifth seed, ripping 28 winners.

Wawrinka, in his all or nothing, aggressive style, also registered 66 unforced errors against the bespectacled Korean, a 2013 Wimbledon junior finalist who is now ranked 69th.
