Two light earthquakes have rattled the East Coast of the North Island this morning.

At 5.03am, GeoNet recorded a magnitude 3.5 quake, 5km north-east of Ruatoria, at 16 kilometres deep.
Geonet said it was followed by a magnitude 4 jolt shortly at 5.57am, at 30km deep, and 5km west of Te Araroa.
