Foster now in court in Vanuatu tomorrow

15:10 pm on 22 January 2007

Convicted conman, Peter Foster, is now due to appear in court in Vanuatu tomorrow afternoon on charges of unlawfully entering the country and passport offences.

He was to have been deported to Australia on Friday but was forced to stay behind bars because Vanuatu's internal affairs minister was unavailable to sign the deportation order.

Mr Foster has been held in a Vanuatu prison since he was captured by police in a dawn raid a week ago.

The boat crew alleged to have helped Mr Foster travel from Fiji, where he skipped bail, are also under investigation by Australian Federal Police and local authorities in Vanuatu.

Mr Foster is wanted in Fiji on three outstanding fraud charges and in the Federated States of Micronesia for his alleged role in a huge bank fraud.
