The first stage of a new $100 million roading project in the Bay of Plenty is set to go ahead before the end of the year.
Building the Baypark to Bayfair Linke Upgrade in Tauranga will see the main trunk railway line moved, and two flyovers built in the area.
The Transport Agency says the first stage involving the relocating the rail lines is expected to be finished by late next year.
It says once the whole project is completed, the Link will reduce reduce congestion and improve safety by separating local and state highway traffic.
It should also encourage economic growth in the region by improving the route to the Port of Tauranga.
