The National Weather Service has advised people in the Northern Marianas to conserve water in the face of an impending drought.
The drought conditions being experienced in Yap, Palau, and the Marshall Islands is expected to extend to the CNMI in the coming weeks.
The NWS says the public should be mindful of water usage.
It says water supplies will need to be monitored and water conservation is encouraged, especially for the islands of Saipan, Tinian, and Rota.
The service says that grass fires have also been observed in Guam and the risk of fires will increase in the coming weeks.
Homeowners should keep grass and brush trimmed far away from houses and other buildings.
The service has warned that damage to food crops could also develop.
