The family of the slain Upper Hutt woman Lois Tolley say they are desperate for arrests to be made in the case.
The police have been seeking four men, but they now believe it is possible one or more women may have been involved in the execution-style killing.
The 30-year-old was stabbed and shot at point blank range in her Ward Street home on December the 10th.
Lois Tolley's mother, Cathrine MacDonald, returned home to Australia this week after making a tearful plea for information last week.
Her sister, Rita Cole, said Ms MacDonald "is not good at all" but was lucky to have been connected with victim support workers across the Tasman.
She said the family was desperate for a resolution.
"Of course, we would love it and, you know, we've never been through anything like this before and it's just absolutely tragic and it's a daily thing waiting for that phone call."
Ms Cole said she did not think the inquiry was stalled and detectives were in contact with the family every day.
"I think they're confident, and getting good information still, so we will just go with that."
Ms Cole said the police had told her last week's appeal had prompted "a lot of phone calls" and the family was happy with that.
She was not getting the impression it would be a long haul before the case was resolved.
"They're doing the best they can do with what they've got."
A shotgun police believed was used in the killing still has not been found.
Inquiry leader Detective Senior Sergeant Glenn Barnett said there were "no identified offenders at this point" as the investigation team continued to work through persons of interest, some of whom had gang links.
He said from witness accounts, and information gathered, the police know there were men seen running from Ms Tolley's home, but the group also may have involved "one or more" women.
Mr Barnett said investigators had spoken to "a large number" of people and now had CCTV footage showing three vehicles of interest - one blue, one silver and one white.
He said anyone with information should come forward.
