The Old Waimakariri Bridge near Christchurch will reopen on Friday evening after being closed for two days because of high river levels.
A Christchurch City Council spokesperson says water levels have subsided which has allowed engineers to assess the bridge's structure and deem it safe.
The New Waimakariri Bridge, which runs parallel to the old one, has been kept open throughout the bad weather.
