Vanuatu police say one of a group of six Tanna men facing rape charges has been charged with another rape, allegedly committed six days earlier.

The Vanuatu Independent newspaper also reports police are investigating a mobile phone video from Tanna that allegedly shows a girl being raped by some of those in the group of six.

The group has this week been committed to stand trial in the Supreme Court after the State Prosecution dismissed an attempt by custom chiefs to deal with the alleged crime.

Both the alleged victim and her local chief had asked prosecutors to drop the charges because the men had been subject to a custom court and had paid reparation.

Each of the group is charged with rape and also faces a charge of threatening to kill.
