Police seeking witnesses after woman injured in hit and run

Police in Palmerston North are appealing for information from the public following a hit and run which seriously injured an elderly woman.

The 73-year-old woman was hit by a car on Tremaine Avenue at about 4.15pm, while attempting to cross the road opposite Coronation Park.

Police said the car was travelling east towards Rangitikei St when it performed a U-turn and hit the woman, knocking her to the ground.

The driver did not stop and completed the U-turn before driving west towards Botanical Road.

The woman received serious injuries as a result of the crash and was admitted to hospital.

The car involved in the incident was described as being a blue or grey coloured medium size sedan.

The police have asked anyone who witnessed the incident, or had any further information, to contact 105 and quote file number 211029/6283.
